What is Asian American Studies?

Asian American studies is an interdisciplinary field that draws from and contributes to the humanities, social sciences, the arts, and professional disciplines. Asian American studies also draws upon and advances theoretical perspectives and methodologies utilized in ethnic, feminist, queer, and cultural studies. Scholars in Asian American studies not only create knowledge elucidating the experiences and perspectives of Asian and Native Pacific Americans, they also examine the construction of knowledge within the academic disciplines and within society at large. Topics include, but are not limited to, studies of immigration, imperialism and war, diaspora, law and policy, community formation, social movements, and cultural production.

Asian American Studies at CSUF

Asian American Studies at CSUF focuses on teaching, scholarship and service that advance relevant and responsive learning about the histories and experiences, identities, social and community formations, politics and contemporary concerns of Asian and Native Pacific Americans in the US and throughout the diasporas.

Land Acknowledgement

We collectively acknowledge that Cal State Fullerton is located on traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of Indigenous people. Before this land was colonized it was cared for and called home by the Tongva and Acjachemen Peoples. We recognize that this land holds great historical, spiritual, and personal significance for its original inhabitants. To ensure that we are truly catalyzing change rooted in this social justice principle, Cal State Fullerton recognizes and continually support and advocate for the sovereignty of the Native nations in this territory and beyond. By offering this land acknowledgment, we affirm tribal sovereignty and our commitment to the tribes that historically called this land home.
