Undergraduate Advising

For ASAM Majors and Minors

Majors and minors are encouraged to reach out to an advisor to discuss:

  • Progress toward degree completion
  • Ask about TDA exceptions
  • Discuss course offers
  • Help with applying to scholarships
  • Learn more about careers related to Asian American Studies
  • And more!

We recommend that students check in with their academic advisor periodically to ensure that students are making appropriate progress toward degree completion. When in doubt, please do not hesitate to send questions and concerns over to our advisors.

For Students Interested in Majoring or Minoring in ASAM

Students who are interested in majoring and minoring in Asian American Studies are also welcome to contact an advisor to discuss degree requirements and assist with changing or adding a major or minor.

Please reach out to us at ASAMAdvising@fullerton.edu to schedule a meeting. We look forward to chatting with you and learning more about you, too!

At ASAM Advising, we aim to:

  • Identify topics, issues, and passions that you might want to pursue.
  • Introduce and familiarize you with the expansive opportunities of Asian American Studies beyond the classroom.
  • Identify co-curricular activities that might be of interest.
  • Connect you to specific resources on and off campus campus (i.e. faculty, staff, graduate students, and offices) that can offer additional and targeted information and assistance.
  • We understand that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to advising. It may take more than one conversation to get a sense of what you're interested in pursing. No worries! At ASAM Advising, we're excited to further your journey in Asian American Studies!

Meet the Academic Advisor

Brian Chung with Dodger Dog!

Hello! My name is Brian Su-Jen Chung and I am your Asian American Studies Department faculty advisor for 2024-25! The Asian American Studies Department recognizes that you may have a vast network of friends, staff, and faculty on campus to provide you support with your academic journey at CSUF. In the Asian American Studies Department, our goal is to provide an additional perspective with the specific intent of helping you enhance your undergraduate experience by incorporating your interests and passions for Asian American Studies into different activities on-and-off campus.

In addition to helping you navigate your course load towards the completion of your ASAM major or minor, we aim to provide a “holistic” approach to advising that considers who you are (e.g. existing interests, hobbies, potential career goals) to help you explore Asian American Studies through co-curricular activities, such as internships, volunteering, scholarships and research opportunities. We have existing relationships to people on and off-campus that we can mobilize to help you! That is, we aim to broaden your horizon of what Asian American Studies is, deepen your interests in topics and issues, and provide opportunities to develop new knowledge and skills for the future.
