For ASAM Majors and Minors

Majors and minors are encouraged to reach out to an advisor to discuss:

  • Progress toward degree completion
  • Ask about TDA exceptions
  • Discuss courses
  • Help with applying to scholarships
  • Learn more about careers related to Asian American Studies
  • And more!

We recommend that students check in with their academic advisor periodically to ensure that students are making appropriate progress toward degree completion. When in doubt, please do not hesitate to send questions and concerns over to our advisors.

For Students Interested in Majoring or Minoring in ASAM

Students who are interested in majoring and minoring in Asian American Studies are also welcome to contact an advisor to discuss degree requirements and assist with changing or adding a major or minor.

Please reach out to us at [email protected] to schedule a meeting. We look forward to chatting with you and learning more about you, too!

At ASAM Advising, we aim to:

  • Identify topics, issues, and passions that you might want to pursue.
  • Introduce and familiarize you with the expansive opportunities of Asian American Studies beyond the classroom.
  • Identify co-curricular activities that might be of interest.
  • Connect you to specific resources on and off campus campus (i.e. faculty, staff, graduate students, and offices) that can offer additional and targeted information and assistance.
  • We understand that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to advising. It may take more than one conversation to get a sense of what you're interested in pursing. No worries! At ASAM Advising, we're excited to further your journey in Asian American Studies!

Hello! I am thrilled to serve as your Asian American Studies major/minor advisor! The Asian American Studies Department recognizes that you may have a vast network of friends and mentors on campus to support your academic journey at CSUF. Our advising goal is to provide guidance to enhance your undergraduate experience through incorporating your ethnic studies learning into your various passions and activities both on and off campus, now and into the future.

In addition to helping you navigate the academic requirements towards completion of your ASAM major or minor, my aim is to support your self-determination in actualizing your life-long goals, and on the way, an appreciation for the process of learning, questioning, challenging and feeling challenged. My advising and teaching philosophy is centered on my belief that cultivating individual self-determination is necessary for advancing social justice, which is the ultimate mission of Asian American Studies. I'm excited for your personal ASAM journey!
